I'M GLAD YOU'RE HERE

One of the best things about being an artist is getting to know other artists on a deeper level. So let me share a little about myself.

Hi! I’m Alejandra Caballero, a Mexican artist based in Mexico City.

My artistic journey began with endless hours of drawing as a child, surrounded by art and art books in my mother’s tiny art studio. I believe that being in that creative environment inspired me and sparked my passion for making art, a love that’s only grown stronger over the years.

I studied visual arts at La Esmeralda in Mexico City. However, most of what I know about drawing, painting, and building a career as an artist comes from learning online, thanks to the generosity of other artists sharing their knowledge.

This spirit of sharing is what motivates me to create educational content. Seeing other artists’ processes helped me tremendously on my journey, and I hope to offer the same support through my work.

My art focuses on portraits—mostly animal portraits—featuring vibrant color combinations and whimsical backgrounds. My style blends a sense of realism with bold strokes and expressive shapes. Color and form play an intuitive role in my process, allowing me to explore and adapt as I create.

Painting, for me, is a meditative experience. I prefer to approach it with openness, letting colors and shapes emerge naturally instead of forcing them. Still, developing a strong foundation was essential in shaping my style and embracing looseness in my work.

In this course, I’ll share some of the exercises that helped me the most, while guiding you through how I create my cat portraits from start to finish.
